A Love and War stand Alone
These DO NOT NEED to be read in any order

I crashed and opened my eyes . . . there you were, fierce and protective, and I knew . . . I just knew it was you all along.

Ex-Marine Trent Reed has been shot at, in a coma, and placed in war zones, but when his best friend calls in a favor, he is faced with the most dangerous situation yet—to be the best man. Trent’s turbulent past with races other than his own taints his view on the interracial marriage, and he’s none too happy to deal with the ill-tempered maid of honor. To accept the position means understanding that his friend is soon to be out of his life—for good.

Tough-girl Teal Lofton has struggled all of her adult life, from her weight to the color of her skin holding her back in work and love. When she agrees to be the maid of honor in her friend’s wedding, a hormonal bride and a jerk of a best man who she is strangely, yet wildly, attracted to, amplify those struggles.

As tensions and tempers rise, Trent disappears with the wedding rings and Teal braves a snowstorm to bring them back, determined to fix yet another problem. But a tragic accident brings together the unlikely pair, forcing them to face the prejudices of their pasts. In doing so, Trent and Teal embark on an inevitable course of self-discovery and passion like they’ve never experienced before—until a secret from Trent’s past threatens to destroy it all.

Author Interview!

Welcome, tell us a little more about yourself?

A. My name is Kristen Anne Inger Iversen and I’m from Virginia Beach. My day job is at a chainsaw
factory! It’s sounds like hard work, but it’s actually rather easy and fun.

Did you always wanted to be a writer? If not what did you want to be?

A. I’ve always enjoyed writing, but when I was younger I wanted to be a veterinarian!

When did you first consider yourself a “writer”?

A. It took FOREVER for me to actually change my job to Author.

Who is your publisher? Or do you self-publish?

A. My publisher is CHBB, Crushing Hearts and Black Butterfly. I LOVE this company! I also self-publish.

How long does it usually take you to write a book, from the original idea to finishing writing it?

A. I’ve been writing for a couple years now, so I’ve gotten faster. It takes about four to five months for me to finish the novel. Then you add a month of editing and proofreading and I can finish a book in five to six months.

What can we expect from you in the future? ie More books of the same genre? Books of a different genre?

A. YES! I have a new Adult Contemporary Romance I am working on soon! I can’t wait to release it.

Do you have a certain routine you have for writing? ie You listen to music, sit in a certain chair?

A. Normally when I write, I get my laptop and go outside with my headphones. The most comfy place is in my bed, but when I’m there, my cat always jumps on my laptop for nap.

What genre of books do you enjoy reading?
A. I love paranormal romance, but lately, I’ve been reading a bunch of contemporary romances.

If you could travel back in time here on earth to any place or time. Where would you go and why?

A. I wouldn’t travel to the past. The past is where it belongs in the past, but I would LOVE to visit the future!

The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne Manga Classics Edition MINI BOOK REVIEW!

                                                            Amazon ** Barnes&Noble

Title: The Scarlet Letter : Manga Classics Edition

Author: Nathaniel Hawthorne

Published: Diamond Book Distributors

I am not going to go into details about the plot since I plan to read the original story in the future but I will let you know how I felt about this edition of the story.

Rating:

Thoughts: I went into this just know a bit about the plot because I have never read any version of this story. I was surprised at how great the story was and I almost found it to be a bit romantic in a way. Hester was so brave and took her punishment with a sense of pride that you rarely saw in this time in American history. The artwork was also very well done and I was able to get the emotions of each of the characters without all the words describing how they felt. This manga will capture your heart even if you have already read the story I would give this a try! Love ,Love ,LOVE this edition!

Dr. Maya Kelbeck believes no matter how unusual her patients’ delusions, she can help. When billionaire Alden Caldwell seeks her counsel to escape a controlling relationship, she’s intrigued by his unusual diagnosis, lycanthropy—her patient actually believes he is over 400 years old and a werewolf.

Alden Caldwell’s life is not his own and hasn’t been since the middle ages, not since he was transformed into a werewolf. The once noble knight now finds himself no more than a slave to a female vampire who is without morals, without conscious, without a soul.

Maya promises Alden she can help him, and at first it looks like she can, until the supernatural world in which he lives wants him back. Can Alden convince Maya his delusions are real in time to save her, or has he just sentenced a woman who cares for him despite his past transgressions to a fate worse than death?

Besides writing, her many diversions include kickboxing, reading awesome books and hanging out with her loud and rambunctious family. Rating:

Thoughts: This graphic novel jumped around quite a bit between different characters which was a bit confusing at times. With all the flip flopping around between the different characters you didn't really get much of a handle on what was going on until almost the end. I will warn you though that this graphic novel is violent and had parts with nudity and adult themes. I would recommend this to people that love science fiction / dystopian type stories.

Quote:  "In the poverty and meagerness of their art, call hills, and motionless trees, and unmarked stone by the name of gods, though in no way nearer to gods than is their form."

Alone Forever: The Singles Collection by Liz Prince BOOK REVIEW!

                                                         Amazon ** Barnes&Noble

Title: Alone Forever: Singles Collection

Author: Liz Prince

Published: Top Shelf Productions

Anyone who has ever been single will understand how hard it is to find the right one. Some of us don't have trouble finding someone while some of us who are odd balls had a harder time.

This book is written in a comic strip type of format and it follows Liz Prince and her Ok Cupid dating adventures as well as other dating excursions. Come with Liz on her many dates and watch as they fail over and over again in every comedic way possible.

Rating:

Thoughts: This is a book for someone with a since of humor and the reason I say that is because this book could be offensive to the light hearted. I liked this book and found it to be quite funny, I even found myself laughing out loud at Liz's shenanigans and the the awkward situations she got herself into.

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness BOOK REVIEW!

                                                        Amazon ** Barnes&Noble

Title: A Monster Calls

Author: Patrick Ness

Published: Walker Books

Conor has the same nightmare every night, ever since his mother became sick. It's hard for him to remember a time before the doctors and hospital visits. Conor would give anything for things to be the way they were before all of this happened and to be treated like something other than a kid with a sick mother at his school.

Even though his mother tries to carry on as if nothing is wrong Conor knows that her treatments are failing, but he still has hope that one day she will get better. Then one night at 12:07 pm a large beast made up of a Yew tree appears at Conor's bedroom window. Since Conor was sleeping the only thing he could think was that this was a dream or nightmare some sort.  The monster assures him that this is not the case much to the disbelief of Conor who almost taunts the beast in way. The monster didn't come to scare Conor though he brought with him stories of the misfortunes of life and assures Conor that after a few of his own life stories it will be Conor's turn to tell his.

"You really aren't afraid, are you? "

"No." Conor said. "Not of you , anyway."

The Monster narrowed its eyes.

"You will be," it said "before the end."

The next morning Conor wakes up to a room filled with leaves from a Yew Tree. The monster had to be a dream such a thing couldn't exist could it? Life for Conor is about to come crashing down as his worst fears begin to be come a reality and the worst of all is a monster.....who wants the truth.

Rating:

Thoughts: I found this book very interesting and I love the monster in the story who appeared very wise and told stories or truths that aren't always what they seem. This book was a bit depressing but it  struck a cord with me since I have had people in my family become sick and slowly waste away while doctors rushed around trying to find a cure. The book itself is a quick read with very short chapters that can be easily tackled even if you are a busy person. This books comes with a message that things aren't always as they appear to be and I would recommend it to anyone who is willing to know what that message means.

Quotes From The Book:

"And then one day the invisible man decided, the monster said, its voice ringing in Conor's ears, I will make them see me."

"You do not write your life with words, the monster said. You write it with actions."

Rating:

Thoughts: This is a short story, only 12 pages long. Though the story was a sad one, I like the idea behind it. I wish there were more to the story as far as description, I would have loved to know what the little girl saw after her choice was made and she moved on.

Of Poseidon by Anna Banks BOOK REVIEW!!!

                                                 Amazon ** Barnes&Noble

Title: Of Poseidon

Author: Anna Banks

Published: Square Fish

Even with her violet eyes Emma never really thought she was different... that is until a near drowning experience in which catfish came to the rescue of her distress call. Ever since then Emma has noticed that fish and other sea life tend to love her and listen to her but not just that Emma notices that she also knows what they are feeling. If that weren't strange enough Emma also runs into a handsome stranger while on vacation. What catches her attention about this stranger is his bright violet eyes just like hers. Such a rarity should be harder to find but Emma not only notices his eyes but also the strange pulling sensation she feels towards the handsome stranger almost like they were meant to find each other....

Galen is the prince of the Syrena and is on land searching for a girl who has the gift of Poseidon that can make her able to communicate with fish. It's been years since anyone with the gift has been seen so Galen wasn't expecting that a person with such a gift would be the one girl that crashes into him on the beach. Galen knows that once the person with the gift is found they must be taken to his brother Grom who is the king of the Syrena so they can be mated. The future of his people depend on the match but after finding Emma it takes everything Galen has just to keep himself from falling in love with her. Now the question is what would happen if being with Emma means the death of his species.

What would you do if you had to choose between keeping the one thing you can't live without, or let them go to save everyone.....

Rating:

Thoughts:  I wasn't really a fan of this book for many reasons, one reason is the fact that there isn't really any explaining at the beginning of the book you are just sort of thrown into the the story in a very confusing manner. I also found Emma to be quite annoying at times when she wouldn't do something just because someone wanted her to, not because she didn't want to but just because that person said no. My not liking the attitude of one of the main characters made getting through this story take longer than it should have. At some point I found myself no caring anymore about Emma's side of the story and I just wished that the book would have focused more on Galen. Regardless of my opinion if you like ocean stories/ mythological creatures from the sea then I would recommend you check this one out.

Thoughts: I was a bit weary of this book because of it's marketing as a romance, little did I know that behind the romance came a well thought out paranormal plot complete with creatures of the night. Do not be deceived by the title and the cover (which I loved by the way) this book is much more than just a romance.

A song that goes with the book!
